ENTANGLED: ARCHITECTURE, PERFORMANCE ART AND LIBERATING THE BODY AS A SPATIAL BECOMING

Teaching Material | Presentation May 2020

'I will present on this subject first through how my interest started on performance art as an architect to depart with brainstorming on the possible intersections of architecture and performance. Then I will continue with an interpretation of "performance" as a practice in-between art and architecture. However, my main focus is the intersection of the history of performance art with architectural history and theory in the late 1960s and 1970s. In this context, I will underline the representations of "free body" of both the Neo-Avant-Garde architects and performance artists of the era. Finally, I want to conclude with the limitations of the crossings of architecture and performance art that emerged after the 1980s.'

[The presentation was held for the course Architecture and Interdisciplinary Studies, elective course of Dr Burçin Güngen at the Department of Architecture, Istanbul Technical University, on May 8, 2020. The slides accumulate on each other, finally leaving the references alone.]
